INGRAM – In 1989, Hunt resident, Al Shepperd caught, what has been humorously referred to as “Stonehenge Fever.” He decided to build a replica of the mysterious prehistoric landmark located on the Salisbury Plain in southern England. Assisted by his friend, Doug Hill, Shepperd accomplished this goal, creating Stonehenge II on his property off of Farm Road 1340 in Hunt. In 1994, Al Shepperd passed away, fortunately the property and the monument stayed in the care of his family and remained open as a tourist attraction. By 2010, it became necessary for the family to move Stonehenge II and they began a search for the new location. The Hill Country Arts Foundation in Ingram decided to adopt the monumental sculpture along with its two side-kick Easter Island heads. With the help of the community, the project of the move was completed and has been open for public viewing at the Point for several months.
Now HCAF would like to celebrate with the community and is announcing a call for entries for a Stonehenge II T-Shirt design contest. The contest is free to enter.
