Henry Darnell Featured Artist for Kerrville CHALK Festival

Henry Darnell of Dallas, Texas is a professional artist working in animated films and visual effects for more than 20 years. Darnell is the featured street artist for the Kerrville CHALK Festival June 6 and 7, 2015. Darnell will produce a 12-foot by 12-foot reproduction of a famous painting by a popular American artist in the center of Peterson Plaza in downtown Kerrville. Professionally, Darnell creates physical miniatures, puppets and props for film and television, and he holds a BFA in illustration from the Columbus College of Art and Design in Ohio. He made the transition to digital modeling during a 12 – year career at Sony Pictures Imageworks. Darnell’s film credits include; Beetlejuice, Throw Momma from the Train, Scrooged, The Rocketeer, The Abyss, True Lies, Honey I Blew Up the Kid, Starship Troopers, Stuart Little, Stuart Little II, The Haunted Mansion, Castaway, What Lies Beneath, The Attack of the Chubb Chubbs, Open Season, Beowulf, The Polar Express, Big Fish, G-Force and The Watchmen.

The Kerrville Chalk Festival is a celebration of art, family and community in downtown Kerrville. An estimated 50 artists, including local artists, groups and guest artists from around the State will be creating large-scale chalk street paintings on Peterson Plaza. No admission fee will be charged to attend the event. The two-day Festival will include a Community Mural where festival attendees can create their own chalk square. There will be a special area for children 12 and under to create chalk art on the sidewalks of Peterson Plaza.

To sign up and participate as an artist at the Festival, fill out the artist application at www.kerrvillechalk.com. Artist Chair Debbie Minn remarks, “There are no fees for artists and materials will be provided.  Artists of all ages and abilities are encouraged to participate. The works produced are temporary; if you have never done a street painting; have no fear. The process is both unique and rewarding.”

The Kerr Arts & Cultural Center (KACC) will host a free workshop taught by Darnell to instruct those interested in the techniques of producing large works in chalk on pavement. The hands-on workshop will be from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 18, 2015. Chalk for the workshop will be provided without charge.
